From the recording My Collectibles
A painful song with a courageous ending. Leaving is harder than staying, until staying is harder than leaving. Being there for someone when they're finally ready to say "No More" is a gift that can save a life.
Lyrics
No More
The place he calls home is no longer where he lives,
and lately, what he takes from me is much more than he gives.
We took a long time getting here, the traveling was slow.
I lied for a long time. I guess I didn’t want to know
for sure.
I liked a good time and he was a good-time guy.
We were young and crazy, reaching for the sky.
Now we’re getting older, and things need to be done,
but when the party’s over, he says I’m no fun
anymore.
I still want the man I fell in love with.
I still see the good he has inside.
I can’t tell my friends or my family what’s going on,
but it’s getting hard to hide.
We got bills to pay, but again the paycheck’s spent.
He gets mad when I ask him where all the money went.
“Get off my back!” he yells at me, “What do you expect?
I’m going out with my friends, at least they give me some respect.”
He slams the door.
And it’s another night alone, walking to the window, staring at the phone,
Trying to get some sleep in this empty bed; wishing him home safe, wishing him dead.
I have fought the good fight for us.
I’ve given it my best.
But I wish I could reach in and pull my heart out of my chest.
Cause I still want the man I fell in love with.
But I’m drowning here and he won’t take my hand.
It’s time to tell my friends and my family
I need help, and
they will understand.
