The complexity of self-medicating is usually mystifying and almost always heartbreaking. I've known some people...
Lyrics
Cabin Fever
I know some people, life doesn’t fit right.
They got a case of cabin fever even out in the daylight.
Never felt settled in the skin they’ve been given.
Can’t put a finger on what needs to be forgiven.
And it dogs their steps like the shadow of a stranger;
a scent that seems familiar; a sensation kin to hunger.
I don’t know what it is about me, makes me try to figure it out.
I see a part of me but for the grace of God I’d be in the same boat.
I believe we get a reprieve with every morning sun.
I believe if we weren’t beaten by today,
then today is done,
and we can move along.
I know some people been chasing the white rabbit.
They’ll be okay (someday), just gotta kick the habit.
Can’t explain the pain they were trying to appease.
Set out for the cure, ended up with the disease.
And it dogs their steps.
I don’t know what it is about me, makes me try to figure it out.
Maybe I see a part of me but for the grace of God I’d be in the same boat.
I know some people, being born is their crime.
They might invite the punishment (but not doin’ the hard time).
You can take a sip or you can take a swig;
you can get stuck filling a hole you never meant to dig.
And it dogs their steps like the shadow of a stranger;
A scent that seems familiar; a sensation kin to hunger.
And I don’t know what it is about me, makes me try to figure it out.
I see a part of me that for the grace of God I’d be in the same boat.
I believe we get a reprieve with every morning sun.
I believe if we weren’t beaten by today,
then today is done.
